Pearl of Wisdom No. 85 - make morning routine.

Thursday, 12 May 2016

Make. Morning. Routine.

Sounds so boring doesn't it?!

If you ask my husband about me and routine when we first met he would tell you that I would balk at the idea and do what ever I could to sabotage his attempts at getting me in to one, especially in the mornings. He however has been the master of them since the dawn of time (slight exaggeration but this man thrives on routine!) and you could set your watch by what he did and when he did it.

Pearl of Wisdom No.84 - Live like Spring

Saturday, 26 March 2016

If you want a fresh, brand new, shiny feeling when you go about your days (and who doesn't want to feel this way right?) then embracing this season is the key to success!

But what exactly does it mean to live like...Spring?!

Pearl of Wisdom No.83 - Making resolutions

Friday, 22 January 2016

Is January meant to be a fresh start for you or do you believe that new year, new you is a load of rubbish? Where do you stand on resolutions?

Did you know that only 8% of people who make New Years resolutions actually achieve them? However statistics also show that people who specifically make resolutions are 10 times more likely to be success at achieving their goals and plans!

Now we're half way through this month already, it feels like January is just slipping away and February is just around the corner! For me that may be because I have a jam packed month ahead which I don't feel anywhere near prepared for, maybe for you it's because you still haven't quite settled on what you want from the year ahead. Maybe you wanted to set some intentions, focus on finding your passion or commit to something that will bring you one step closer to your goals and dreams, or maybe you don't know what you want from life this year so you wanted to spend some time mulling it all over and feeling a bit stuck - if this sounds like you then stick with me my friend!

Courage doesn't always roar,
sometimes it's the quiet voice at the end of the day whispering 'I will try again tomorrow
― Mary Anne Radmacher

Wow - this couldn't be more powerful for me right now! It feels like I'm trying to juggle a lot at the moment, new baby, preschooler and her ever grow schedule of parties and activities, a new house, my poor neglected blog, Christmas prep all while still trying to make sure my relationship gets a look in, just reading that sentence makes me want to crawl back to bed...

Hey Monday - we finally meet again!

Well I never intended to take maternity leave from the blog but it's been a intense full on couple of months, where spending time with my precious newborn and settling my big girl in to a new way of life has been my only priority. (You can read more about why here) We are kind of living day to day because family life has changed so much but I'm hoping though, that this is me, slowly getting back to a place that I love and feel so passionate about. So with my recent way of life in mind I saw this quote and knew it was perfect for my first Pearls of Wisdom post back to the blog.

"People can't imagine your potential until you show it!" - Joy Cho

Over the weekend I have had a busy but fabulous trip to London to attend Blogtacular, one of the many blogging conferences out there. This one was really for creative types who wrote fashion, craft and interior blogs and I felt a little bit of a fraud being there. However the confrence was superbly run and co-ordinated and featured some truly inspiration and got getting speakers which I have learnt so much from, I also got the chance to speak to one of my all time favourite blog crushes Joy Cho who I chatted with about babies and being pregnant with a toddler in tow (Joy is pregnant too and a second time mum to be like myself!).

I was also thrilled to hear Joy talk a few times about her experience and wisdom in blogging and the quote featured here today was a real lightbulb moment for me when she was talking to us all about blogging as a business. Not only did it really capture my imagination when thinking about the future of my blog but it really resinated with me when being inspired to live out all the corners of my life.

This week I'm challenging you all to think about your own potential, where in your life can you reveal it to the others around you and really show off who you are or what you are all about?
A job promotion or interview?
With friend or a loved one or maybe someone you admire or would like to connect with?
What can you do to show your world your talent, skills and what you are really capable of?

Does this sound like a challenge? Share your stories below!

There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind. - C.S. Lewis

Well you can say that again! We are really moving forward at a fast pace this year, there is now something on the horizon that's very exciting for our family, this will be happening before Little Miss Cannon number two arrives too!

We really are leaving behind a lot of our past this year and forging ahead in to new territory and it definitely feels like the best thing we could be doing, what a huge difference a year will make to us!

So what's on your horizon?
Now that the warm weather is finally here and you can start planning the summer months are you ready to leave something behind? Are you ready to embrace all the new possibilities that your life could throw your way?

If you are a fan of astrology you will know that all of these Lunar Eclipses lately have helped to put to rest the old, tired things of the past that no longer serve you and is opening up some new energy that may drive you forward to what you have been dreaming, imagining and manifesting lately.

Sounds like just the thing I need, how about you?
Do share your plans and projects below, I'd love to know what you're getting up to!

Tuesday Moment of Wisdom - Pearl number 69

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

When I was 19 I got a job in London nannying for a very posh family in St Johns Wood, their former nanny was Australian and she was leaving to return home, she was there to show me ropes on my first week and at the end of it she invited me to go out with her friends at a near by Mexican restaurant. I was so pleased she had asked me, I knew no one in London and was quite shy back then, I was excited to get out and be social and hopefully make some new friends. We met all her friends at the restaurant they all seem so much cooler and confident than me and I was totally taken in, I remember sitting there feeling very small, no one really spoken to me apart from the odd polite thing, every so often the Australian nanny would smile at me or comment to me but of course she was busy having fun with her friends, anyway I liked listening to their conversation, learning about their lives and felt like I they could become my people and hoped that I would fit in at some point. At the end of the meal they started talking about where to go next, what pub or club would be good that night and I thought to myself maybe with the meal out the way I could start to relax and join in a bit more, we all settled the bill and everyone got up to leave and then the Australian nanny turned to me and said "Well, were all heading off to somewhere else now so I'll see you in the morning...." OH! I thought, I'm not invited along to the next part, I mumbled a sad goodbye and walked home by myself feeling disappointed that it hadn't gone well then and a bit sad that no one really like me, obviously I was too quiet and boring, why would they want me hanging around, I felt very lost and lonely in that big city.A month later still feeling lost and lonely, not having any confidence and not knowing where to meet people in a place that was completely alien to me I left and moved on. I look back at that experience now and still feel disappointed, but not by myself this time but at the attitude of all the people around me, I may not have been a super experienced, larger than life person with lots of witty or impressive stories to tell but I was a sweet person who was kind and thoughtful who was open minded and wanted to explore the world, meet as many different people as I could and was up for, well most things yet no one gave me a chance, based on a 45 minute meeting where everyone knew each other and I knew no one, was a bit younger and a bit quite they decided I was not good enough to get to know and that is certainly how it felt. Now I'm pleased to say that life is different, I'm of course much more confident with who I am and find it easier to connect with people because of this. I am sure of what I stand for, have faith in my identity and have the kind of you either like me or you don't attitude, I happy and comfort le with this.I do tend to surround myself with my kind of people however I do try to reach out to however crosses my path because after all you never know who may turn out to be your kind of person. I talk to so many women though who continue to go through similar situations and at all stage of life, mums who can't fit in at their local toddler group or at the school gates or someone who start a new jobs, a women who has moved to a new town or someone who joins a club but finds the self is left out. Women all over are facing isolation and are being excluded, because they are new, or young, or don't wear the right clothes, or have the wrong postcode, because they look different, sound different or have a different background, because they are shy or because they talk too much the list is endless it seems.I've been that girl, it sucks and it's upsetting when people judge you first hand and no one give you a chance to show your true colours or find a common ground. I remember how it felt as a 19 year old and I know that people of 69 still face this situation.  “Be genuinely interested in everyone you meet and everyone you meet will be genuinely interested in you” ― Rasheed OgunlaruToday's Pearl of Wisdom is about stepping outside your friendship box, pushing your friendship boundaries and inspiring all of us to say Hi to someone we wouldn't normally connect to, maybe the newbie at work or baby group, maybe the neighbour who moved in a couple of weeks ago or the one who has been there for years. The person you stand next to at the bus stop, the mum you see at the school gates on her own or someone you are introduced to for the first time, ask them a question, try and find a common ground, you can never have to many friends to connect to in life and you never know how much your connection with them might mean in their life.I would love to hear your stories on friendship, if you've has a similar experience or if you have met someone who you didn't to expect to become a friend tell me about it below!

And that is how change happens. One gesture. One person. One moment at a time. - Libba Bray

Implementing changing can be a tricky thing, you know you need to sometimes or maybe you have set yourself some new goals but going about making that change isn't always easy and can leave us feeling frustrated and like a failure when we don't get it right.

Recently I've been trying to make some changes, new morning routine, new bedtime routine, eating more healthy and trying to boost my energy levels amongst a few things, it's been really hard to try and do these things this time, especially the changes that are personal and solely rely on my own motivation and will power!

I think I know where I might of being going wrong though, I think I was too busy focusing on the enormity of the task and try to make massive changes all at once instead of taking one task at a time and breaking it down in to chunks.

So this week I'm being bit more easy going on myself and taking things one day at a time, looking at where I can start making small changes until I feel more focused to make the big ones, mainly making ones that help boost my energy a bit more so I can focus on the bigger things, instead of trying to achieve fifty things at once!

What changes are you try make, I'd love to hear, whether it's world domination or changing the brand of soap you use, how are you doing it? Would it be easier to break it down and focus on the small things first? I love to know your plans!

 “I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living,
my baby you'll be.”
― Robert MunschLove You Forever

This quote is from a beautiful book that was given to LC when she was born, the author is Canadian and comes from LC's godmothers home town of Guelph, we love reading this book to her and it reminds me so much of time when she was newborn.

Today's Pearl of Wisdom is a little different, it's on a really personal note, because we have been thinking a lot about new babies lately as I'm pleased to tell you all that I am expecting a little bundle of joy again! This will go to explain why I've not been blogging or tweeting or really doing much in the social media world or anywhere else in my life lately, I have been growing my baby and it hasn't been an easy journey...

As some will know who read the blog I have struggled with secondary infertility over the last 3 years, and our heartbreak of failing to have a second baby was intensified last year when I miscarried. Well exactly a year later I have got pregnant again and we are so thrilled but it hasn't been without some scary and intense moments along the way!

At 5 weeks we had a reassurance scan, only to be told that the pregnancy might not be viable again, a week later we being scanned again and told we may be having triplets - wow, you can imagine our heads were spinning!!! Shocked was a complete understatement!

After more scans we eventually found out that I had in fact got 3 gestational sacs all nestled in and growing, only two had babies developing in them so we told that we conceived twins, unfortunately only one of our twins got a heartbeat and I was told that it would most likely be a case of vanishing twin syndrome and by the time we had a dating scan the other sacs and baby would of gone. We had some more scans after and with each one you could see them get smaller and smaller and sure enough, by 12 weeks only our one precious baby could be seen.

In the bigger scheme of life we are just so happy and grateful for our happy healthy baby that is doing so well, after everything we have been through we are still anxious and I know I won't fully feel relaxed until this baby is in my arms  and then a whole load of other worry and stress will be coming our way - I must admit I'm not looking forward to sleepless night again!

Little Miss LC is thrilled about being a big sister but don't even think about talking to her about having a brother, apparently it's a girl and she won't hear anything else said about the matter, god knows how she will react if it is a boy, I think we'll cross that bridge when we come to it! What ever we have she may have to end up sharing her birthday as this little beauty is due around her 4th in September and of course with mine being only 4 days after LC's it may share it's birthday with it's mama!

For now I am feeling relaxed a little, trying to rember how to care for a newborn, trying to shake off the tiredness that comes with pregnancy and getting my head back in to blogging, I really hope I can bring you some great stuff this year, I had so many plans for the blog but hoping to still keep going with them, plus I'm still going to Blogtacular in May so if you're going too I'll be the short lady with a big bump, you can't miss me!

Oh and any advice you have on having two do share in the comments below as I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to handle this!

“Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough” ― Oprah Winfrey

I love a good quote from Oprah, she always makes so much sense and doesn't dance around the truth or reality. I remember years ago when her show was shown on Channel 4 (remember that?), I was stuck in a bad relationship, making excuse for why I wouldn't or couldn't leave and I was at home watching her show on toxic relationships and self love while I ironed my boyfriend clothes and thought to myself "What the hell are you doing here?!" Cue me in tears and nodding my head along to the testaments of women who had also lost their way in a less that happy relationship. I realised then with the power of Oprah that my self worth was not being honoured by what was happening around me, although it took me another year to finally leave...

Other people's words can be so powerful sometimes, they can strike to the heart of the matter when you can't seem to stop bumbling along with something. This quote does just that for me, I'm big fan of practicing grattitude, reflecting on what is happening for me in the here and now giving it some merit but sometimes like many things in life I forget to honour the good things going on for me in life each day, being reminded by someone else words give me that little kick up the bum to see the good in each moment when I get caught up in the should ofs and could ofs and the what ifs.

What are you grateful for today?

Mondays Moment of Wisdom - Pearl Number 64

Isn't that a great quote? This has been bouncing around in my head all weekend!
I'm still trying very carefully to listen to my inner voice, she's actually screaming right now but that's another story for a later date and time, faith and patience will settle her down, oh and lots of meditation, I'm really getting in to being mindful right now, it's helping me manage a bit of anxiety that has surface recently and I have to say it's the best medicine ever!

Anyway back to today's Pearl of Wisdom, knowing who we are now but not who we'll be...

I find the possibility of this quite exciting, I'm not entirely sure who I am right now, but I'm the surest I've ever been, I'm getting to know myself very well and am finding a lot of peace with who I'm evolving into, it's taken some time and patience and a whole lots of soul searching, getting to this point now can only mean, I hope, that things will get better in the future...

Do you ever take a moment to imagine how life will be in 1, 5 or even 20 years time?
What does that look like for you?
Does it scare or thrill you?

I believe we all have the power to determin our destiny and so not knowing who I may become really excites me because I know it's in my hands to shape this, what do you think?
Do you believe that you can change the course of your future, who you will become?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, do leave a comment bellow!

"The quieter you become, the more you can hear." - Baba Ram Das

So it's been really quiet around here the last week, sorry about that! We had a really bad time with sleepless nights, the worst since LC was quite a bit younger and it ended with myself and the Little Miss being I'll, don't let her angelic, sweet, innocent look in these pictures fool you, she is a demon when it comes to sleep and being settled in her bed!

Anyway this lead to me being behind in most things and my poor old blog being a bit neglected, I was feeling a bit guilty about this and all the other things I couldn't achieve until I stopped, stilled myself for a minute and took a look around and realised that actually, the world wasn't ending and wasn't it nice for a change to just relax, have some down time. I was stressing a little but my wise OH encouraged me to just enjoy doing nothing, enjoy being quiet and so I did, and it open my eyes up to so much more. I would definitely encourage others too do the same, if life gets a little busy or tiring just slow down, enjoying being quiet and see what you can see!

“Others inspire us, information feeds us, practice improves our performance, but we need quiet time to figure things out, to emerge with new discoveries, to unearth original answers.”

LC making her wish with Daddy

“Creating means living.” ― Dejan Stojanovic

This last week I have really gotten stuck into some Christmas planning, I was trying to resist it but it really is quite hard to avoid now, it amazes me how much Christmas is already in our faces, through adverts, shops and supermarkets and people putting up decorations already - what's that all about?

This year seems the first time that LC really gets what's going on, I have to admit I am starting to let the Christmas wash over me too. I've started buying gifts, planning activities and looking through decoration bits making sure everything is how it should be, I want this year to be full of excitement for our family and it's starting to look good already.

The one thing I love about this season, that I have fond memories from the past of, is the traditions that get created with the festivities, we had some in my family when I was younger and I know the OH's family did too, for example his mum makes her home-made Christmas pudding every year and everyone in the family has a go at stirring the mixture and making a wish and ever since we have been together I have been able to join in this tradition and now LC is doing it too.

We have also talked about creating some traditions for our little family and this year we going to start doing the Elf on the Shelf for LC, you can find out more about this sweet little idea at the Elf on a Shelf website, it's a great way for building excitement for children but also teaching them to be patient. We also do stockings and have buck fizz and croissant for breakfast too, these are a few things we have included over the years and I know there will be more to come.

The great thing about Christmas is this, it can be what ever you want to create - this time of the year can be so stressful, upsetting, anxious and lonely for a lot of people and the pressure of it all can have such a negative impact on our lives in many, many ways. Whether you are on your own, with family, friends or work colleagues, you can make it want you want it to be, you can create the Christmas you hoped for. It doesn't have to be grand, expensive or all consuming, if you've had a bad year and experienced something that may change how you feel about Christmas or the sheer intenseness brings on a sense of feeling low and in despair then it just simply be something you get through, make the best of in a way that's comfortable or use as a time to reflect, it can look, be and feel how ever you want.

So this year, no matter what your situation is, what can you do to create the Christmas you want?
What new tradition can you start for your family, friends or just for you that might bring you a festive glow?
How can you make this Christmas one that you feel at ease with, one that may give you the slightest glimmer of joy?

It would be lovely to read about your Christmas traditions or how you create that festive spirit for yourself, or maybe you would like to share what parts you find difficult, do write a comment below...

Monday's Moments of Wisdom - Pearl Number 58

Monday, 11 November 2013

I came across this quote again at the weekend, it's one of my favourites!

Last week felt like a bit of a start to a journey for me, I can't really tell you why but something in me just clicked, all I can say is that I feel like I a have a bright light inside of me glowing outwards and it feels amazing - for once I feel completely uplifted and full of joy - about everything and anything!

Though people around me are a bit surprised to hear this, after months of battling with my emotions it feels like I'm on top of it all a bit! Some days it's brighter than others but it just feels like a relief to feel good about life, myself and the future...

I can't guarentee them or myself how long this will last, a while I hope, it doesn't feel like it's going away anytime soon. I think it has come from months of really working hard on how I feel and what I can do to keep myself lifted and moving forward, I wasn't sure I was making progress but in the last week I've had a chance to really reflect on the last year and I've realised how far I've come in the last 12 months despite A LOT of adversity and now I see that those dark and negative experiences can only make myself and my life better and more richer in the long run.

It's helped to have a few good people around me, supporting me and believing that at some point I would find this place, so this week I have made a step, quite a big step actually in really loving who I am and my world around me and I am so excited to see what this new journey has in store for me...

Taking steps to start a new journey can be hard, what helps to make this possible? What hurdles need to be overcome and what expectations are there? Knowing what drives you really helps I think!

Mondays Moment of Wisdom - Pearl Number 57

Monday, 4 November 2013

Lately, I seem to be talking to lots of women about loneliness, it seems these ladies have families, work acquaintances, maybe old school friends they keep in touch with through Facebook, but no one they can say they have a real connection with. We all want friends around us, a family who we are bonded with and generally people in out lives to share moments with whether they are good or bad, having network of others who mean something and who we can spend our time with is very imporatnt and goes towards us feeling contented and valued. For many of people out there though this network of friendship and support is none existent and leaves many feeling isolated.

Some people love their own company, and believe me there are times when I love to have some proper "me" time to get a coffee, read a magazine or browse round the shops all by myself but I can find it difficult when I'm stuck by myself all day with no one to talk to, often I have my little side kick LC with me but there's nothing like a good gossip with a friend or a chat with your significant other at the end of the day. A lot of people are lacking this though even in this day and age of social media, face time and unlimited texting and have no idea how to reach out and meet others.

I can remember a time when I sat cold and lonely in my grotty beds it in my early twenties feeling rather down and out, I hadn't a clue how to connect with others, most of my school friends had moved away and I had made a few friends at work but no one I really connected with. I wish I knew then what I did now, that I didn't have to sit there alone, that there were ways to get myself out in to the world and find others like me, my tribe!

Of course now that we have Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to name a few it's much easier to start connecting to others, although you may find like me, a lot of people don't understand the friendships you can make through social media, I have though made some amazing real life friends this way who I couldn't imagine not knowing now. I certainly wouldn't cynical about connecting with others this way.

I also think that there is such a sense of community in our towns and villages now and it is a lot easier to get involved with local committees and groups in your own backyard just by simply visiting your local community centre, church or notice board at the supermarket and have a look at what's going on.
Maybe there's a book club or a walking group you could sign up to? A slimming group or exercise class or possibly you could volunteer for a local charity, these are all great ways of exploring your passions, you couldn't even get brave and start your own club or group. Another way is to meet up with other like minded people is to learn a new skill, perhaps you've always wanted to learn to knit or take great photographs, checking out your local adult learning centre will open you up to a new world of possibilities!

Now I know some people will cringe at the thought of putting themselves out there, walking in to a room of strangers or tremble at the notion of trying something new. When you lack confidence or self belief it's hard to be open to new experiences but I guarentee that someone else there will be or would of had the same feelings dread and know exactly how it feels. It's also worth considering that a room full of strangers will know nothing about a new person who might turn up that week, so we can be who ever we want to be, they can't see how nervous we are inside even if we can feel it, to them it's a new face, a new person to talk to and get to know, not the fear that's bubbling. By pushing that fear aside or just putting it in a box somewhere for a minute it gives way to great and exciting new things ahead.

I believe that what put out there is what we will get back, if we put out a signals of a friendly, genuine and eager person, we will attract those kind of people back, the kind we can build relationships with, discover new passions with and feel connected with.

Have you ever put yourself out on a limb and made a new friend?
Do you have a great idea for meeting new people?
How have you tackled loneliness or isolation in the past?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this weeks Pearl of Wisdom

We are not the same persons this year as last; nor are those we love.
It is a happy chance if we, changing, continue to love a changed person.
Tomorrow my husband and I celebrate our first wedding anniversary, just the two of us in a strange and exciting new city, away from the stresses and strains our lives, it couldn't get more perfect!

A year ago so many things were very different, our life has changed in many ways since our wedding day and our relationship has endured some of its biggest challenges so far. I am very different to who I was last year, I don't think I am today the woman that my husband married and I think the same goes for him, I think he would agree with me when I say that being married has changed us both and how we live out our relationship but I'm glad it's for the better though and that 365 days later we are still in love with the two people we have become...

PS - Did you know that this week is National Infertility Awareness Week? One in 6 people suffer with infertility problems and I am one of them. Today I feel honoured have been asked to write about my experiences with infertility for my good friend and fellow blogger Gemma Guscott so do go check out my guest post over on Mission2Mum, you can raise awareness too by visiting the campaign website to find out more and using the hash-tag #NIAW on Twitter, Facebook and anywhere else you want to.

“The girl in the mirror wasn't who I wanted to be and her life wasn't the one I wanted to have.”

Wow! Many a time this thought has crossed my mind, is it a familiar one for you too?

My question to you today though is, what are we going to do about it?

You can spend all the time you want looking in the mirror and reflecting back those negative thoughts, wishing, dreaming and hoping for you, for your life to be different but it won't change itself...

The only thing that can truly change it all, that can make a difference, that conjour up the life you want, is that girl in the mirror, what will she do today, tomorrow, next week or next month to make it happen?

Making a change, taking those first steps are scary but when you do it anyway and push yourself forward, believe you can achieve it, dare to dream it, truly feel it and go for what you want, no judgement, no doubt just pure passion and drive, you'll look in the mirror as start to see the life you love and that girl was the genius who created it!

So, what are you going to do to make it happen?

“You will find that it is necessary to let things go; simply for the reason that they are heavy. So let them go, let go of them. I tie no weights to my ankles.” ― C. JoyBell C.

Today's moment of wisdom is going to focus on the weight we all carry around that constantly brings us down. We all have that weight hang off of us, whether it's a project that leaves us unfulfilled, a relationship that isn't giving us what we deserve, a job that leads us in the wrong direction, a commitment that's too much to handle, a feeling/emotion that's full of negativity or simply something, somewhere, in your life, that is no longer bringing you joy or happiness, it becomes the hardest load for us to carry and puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on our well being...

If you're sat here reading this and feel yourself thinking of a particular thing, you know a scenario, event or ongoing situation that pops in to your mind then this pearl of wisdom is for you and I urge you to start thinking instead of how you can put that weight down, let it go, wave it off in to the sunset.
For some of you the thought of putting that weight down is actually scary and it may take some time to find the time, space or courage to release it but even taking the first step of just imagining how lighter your life may be will hopefully lead you to the next step of making a plan of how to go about it.

This week I have had to put down some of the weight that was burdening me, that's why there has been a little break in the blog, I've had to make an effort to finish a few started projects and deal with some uncomfortable feelings all of which were bringing me stress, sadness and anxiety. When I took the time to release the weight of these issues I found myself relaxing, visualising new opportunities and revitalising some healthy habits, feeling like my true self again.

So what's weighing heavy on your mind this week, anything bring you down? Are you having trouble letting go of that weight or have you successfully released it already? Tell me more below...
